Press conference, Monday, April 11, 11:30am, south steps of state capitol in Austin to show support for HB 2413.

Your support is needed to abolish this legalized child abuse in our schools which promotes more child abuse at home. Attend our news conference to show support for Rep. Alma Allen's HB 2413 which will abolish corporal punishment in Texas schools. School paddling is legalized child abuse. 28 states have banned this brutal and archaic practice.

More than 200 Texas children died from abuse or neglect in the past fiscal year, up 11% from the previous year and double the number from a decade earlier, according to the state Dept. of Family and Protective Services
The 2004 fatality rate, 3.3 per 100,000 Texas children is 65% higher than the national average of 1.98 per 100,000 from the federal Dept. of Health and Human services.

In fiscal 2003, Texas had 184 child fatalities related to abuse or neglect, in 1994 it was 102.

We urge you to do what YOU can to pass this bill. It will have a hearing before the House Public Education Committee.

Thoughts to Ponder

When you know that what you're doing is right, nothing will be able to stop you. When you are absolutely convinced of the true value of your efforts, you'll have the courage and the persistence to see them through. To believe in what you're doing is not just important. It is everything.

Anything less cannot possibly succeed. For any accomplishments you reach while living a lie will ultimately be of no value.

It is not always easy to live true to your highest values, true to your authentic self, true to what you know is right. Yet it is always your best choice.

When you deny what you know is right in order to follow the expediency of the moment, the benefits you gain are trivial and fleeting. Choose instead to live each moment true to the highest values you know.

Then, who you become will be the fulfillment of who you truly are. Why would you ever want to be anything less? —Ralph Marston
